Still Cool Friends,
I thought it was all a dream. I mean, I used to read Word Up Magazine. Salt n’Pepa and Heavy D up in the limousine. But, sadly no. As I entered Urban Outfitters as a 38-year man with no business being there, I was greeted by a nice girl who looked like she was straight out of the movie, Mi Vida Loca.
I knew something was off. I began to question my watch and calendar app. How the hell could I have an iPhone in 1995??? Yes, the 90’s were back and not the 90’s I remember, but a 90’s that opened up a shop at the airport filled with 90’s souvenirs so weary time travelers could buy something for their kid on the way back to San Jose. I grabbed my futuristic phone/camera device and began snapping away to grab the evidence that I had actually stepped into and broke open a ripple in pop-time.
Tupac was and still is an icon of hip-hop. I had every album on tape and probably watched Juice 50 times growing up. My uncle even called me Tupac as a nickname. That’s how much I loved Tupac. I’ll let this one pass.
Tower Records is where I first thought working at a record store must be soooooooooo cool. There have been rumors of its return and it was resurrected for one night in LA back in 2015, but this red on yellow shirt was in my closet in the 90’s for sure. Along with some of the best and worst music I’ve ever purchased (I have a terribly embarrassing CD from Tower that I’m willing to divulge if you Tweet at us or comment with the question below. It’s truly sad.).
Yes, look at this mixture of all over the place. N.W.A, KISS, Looney Tunes, Snoop and even…
MICHELLE FROM FULL HOUSE!!!! Seriously, I f’ing can’t. My chest is getting tight, my Hypercolor shirt is shifting shades quickly and I’m imagining someone who thinks wearing this would be a great idea, holy f… Ok, getting it together. Sadly, I saw no Blossom hats (from the TV show Blossom). You’d think Blossom and Six would be resurrected for their expert 90’s fashion wisdom, but no. Michelle gets a shirt. Wow, or should I say “Whoooaaaa!”
I’d rock a Knicks version of this Starter Jacket for sure.
But only if I could leave one side of my Tommy Hilfiger overalls unbuttoned.
Yes, the 90’s were a weird trip friends. Listen to our pod and hear the greater story first hand. Thank you for reading and make sure to join our email list to get the pod straight to your inbox.
Stay Cool Friends!

I shoplifted To the Extreme from the Sam Goody at the Beverly Center when I was in 8th grade. Is your Tower CD more embarassing than that?
I once bought two copies of Deep Blue Something’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. One for a girl and one for the guy who longed for the girl (me). I still have both copies.
Of course you do. Do you keep it next to the letter in French you once wrote?
This comment is how I know you are our number 1 fan. It’s a warm hug of sarcasm.
So, John.
You’ve just followed me on twitter (@CeecesTravel).
Looking at your profile and coming to the conclusion that you are one cool customer, I decided to check out this page. If I could high 5 myself on the back (or get my furby) to do it, I would.
Its POURING rain right now in Durban, South Africa as I type this. I am sitting with a glass of red wine, after maybe (maybe not) consuming way to much Brie Cheese and dip for my own good. About to open all the windows in the room so I can listen to and smell the rain (my favorite weather) when I come across said article above.
I have laughed so hard that I’m pretty sure Ill have a six pack in the morning (same as when you go to the gym THAT ONE time and convince yourself you see drastic changes), lol.
Thank you so much for the awesome read and follow. You have a new fan and one that should be in LA near the end of 2017 as well, so keep in touch.
And as always
